Ancient Dentistry

According to an article in the Los Angeles Times, a 4500 year old grave was found in Mexico with the skull of a man who had an upper denture made from the palate and teeth of either a wolf or panther. There has been evidence of cavities being filled as early as 9000 years ago, but this is the oldest example of tooth modification for dentures ever found…. The 30 year old man probably suffered quite a bit, since the nerves of two of the teeth were exposed and badly infected. Archeologists speculate that he may have died from blood poisoning as a result of the infections.

The moral of the story is, do everything you can to keep your teeth, less you end up with a mouthful of cat.
